The Magic of the Mixtape
I love Spotify. It’s so handy to have access to every song I could ever want (well, almost every song) at my fingertips. For all that, though, there are things that I miss about how we used to listen to music in the 1990s, including the magic of the mixtape.
Who else remembers sitting by your boombox with your finger on the record button, just waiting for the song that you liked to come on so that you could record it onto your cassette tape? Then you’d forever have the radio announcer talking over the beginning and end of the only recording of your favorite song. It sounds obnoxious when I say it out loud, but there’s something actually very charming about it.
