Did you ever have an eraser like the one shown below? Most rubber erasers are pink, but some had this extra blue section on them, and what it was for was something of a mystery. There was an urban legend that the blue side of the eraser was meant to be used for erasing ink.

But if you actually fell for that, then you were in for an unpleasant surprise. It turns out that the pink side of the eraser is for lighter weight paper, and the blue side of the eraser is for heavier weight paper. So if you use the blue side on a normal piece of paper, it would just mangle your paper. Whoever started that rumor is responsible for ruining a lot of people’s homework.
