After Don Knotts left The Andy Griffith Show, the character of Warren Ferguson was introduced as a new lawman in Mayberry. Warren was occasionally described as Floyd the Barber’s nephew, a detail meant to help fold him naturally into the town’s social fabric.

Despite those efforts, Warren never connected with audiences. His personality and comedic style couldn’t fill the enormous gap left by Barney Fife.
